Why it is sleep
so important

Sleep disorders have long been considered as symptoms associated with other diseases, and often as a simple consequence of them. An example are neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s and others). In these diseases there is often a comorbidity condition whereby dementia patients are often also insomniacs.

Today we know that there is a direct connection between chronic sleep disorder and neurodegenerative diseases: impaired sleep quality is not always a symptom of a given disease but maybe its cause. Poor sleep quality, in fact, not only compromises the quality of life of those who experience it, but also increases the long-term risk of developing disabling diseases for individuals, their families, and society.

There are few modifiable parameters on which one can act directly to prevent the development of neurodegenerative diseases and other chronic conditions. Sleep quality is one of those parameters.

Vision

Increasing awareness
of general health conditions
for diagnostic and predictive purposes

Sleepacta offers a simple system for screening and monitoring of sleep-related disorders and aims to replicate the success story that prevention has demonstrated in other clinical areas. For instance, the monitoring of modifiable parameters such as hypertension or hypercholesterolaemia have gone through a process of awareness, prevention culture, and widespread measurement of these parameters.

Examples are hypertension or blood testing. We have all measured our blood pressure more than once in our lives. We have also all measured our plasma cholesterol, and some (many) have been concerned to see the parameters altered when compared to the reference values in their blood tests.

Sleepacta aims to trace the same steps taken in these well-known diseases, and apply them to the assessment of sleep, making use of artificial intelligence and machine learning, for which the company’s scientific team is expert in, and that are well known tools also in the clinical field.

Insomnia

Some significant data

According to the WHO (World Health Organisation), 45% of the world’s population suffers from insomnia

According to WHO insomnia ranks eleventh among neurological disorders with the highest health care costs.

6% to 10% of adults in industrialized countries suffer from chronic insomnia

Insomnia affects more than 10 million people in Italy

At least 15% of insomnia is a chronic condition

Only 7% of the diseased population receives an adequate diagnosis and specific treatment

There is a clear prevalence of insomnia related to the female gender

Insomnia cases increase with age

Responsible for at least 20% of car accidents (due to daytime sleepiness)

Associated with emotional imbalance and limited academic performance in young people, deterioration of work performance in adults

A risk factor for a higher incidence of cerebrovascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases

A risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, especially hypertension, myocardial infarction and heart failure

A risk factor for type 2 diabetes

Workflow - Dormi

Workflow

Dormi - Sleep analysis evolution
The most advanced and reliable artificial intelligence algorithm for simplified sleep-wake cycle diagnostics.

Dormi, our neural network, as-a-service.

The need to study the sleep-wake cycle in large populations led Sleepacta to create an algorithm capable of simple, accurate, and certified monitoring and reporting of sleep quantity and quality:
